Hi, I’m Angela, the owner and maker behind Torngat Treasures.
I am an Inuk from Nunatsiavut, now living in Calgary, Alberta.
Torngat Treasures started as a small home-based business making a hand-full of natural products that I was in need of and wanted to know what was in my products and thats how this all started.
After my grandfather passed away a few years ago, I found myself wanting to learn more about my culture, heritage, and where I came from. Before I returned home from his funeral, I purchased around $1000 in furs and said I would teach myself and learn. That journey led me to working with sealskin and other traditional materials, and to creating pieces that help me stay connected to my roots.
I am self-taught and everything I make is created by hand. From sealskin jewelry and accessories to ookpiks, and framed fur art, each project has taught me something new. Working with fur is still a journey for me, and I continue to practice, learn, and improve my skills with every piece I create. The crochet items i have on here from time to time are made by my mom (thats one thing I’m unable to do haha)
Because I work with natural materials, no two pieces are exactly the same. Each one has its own unique character, making every item one of a kind.
Nakummek (thank you) for supporting my work and helping me continue this journey of learning and creating.
Preserving culture one creation at a time.
